Excerpt from the book: Treating Pain Patients - Non-Pharmacological and Complementary Pain Management (translated from German)
Edited by Stefan Scharnagel
Stefan Scharnagel:
“Light and colors have a variety of positive effects on pain perception and should therefore be taken into account in pain management. In most cases, only small adjustments are necessary, which are also inexpensive. A positive side effect is greater job satisfaction among nursing staff.”

Special colored glasses are a very elegant way of bringing colored light to patients. These are available in all shades of color. However, the main problem with this method lies in “interpersonal acceptance.” If you imagine a patient lying in bed wearing dark blue glasses, this may initially be met with ridicule and found strange by staff, other patients, or even relatives. As simple and effective as this method is, the patient's environment must be well informed about its purpose and benefits. For these reasons, this method is certainly best suited for use in the home and private settings.
